Let the season begin!

The season is starting again, how we have been looking forward to it this year! Easter is for many the moment to get the boat ready for sailing again and to check if everything is in order. In this newsletter you can read about the special Friends of Falcon 4 project, how we make your new sails in our own workshop, the convenience of a bimini. And finally: all about repair possibilities, in case something has to be done before you can start the season!

Falcon 4 Sponsor Project 2

Sailmaker De Vries Maritime sponsors Friends of Falcon 4

A day on the water with your own boat does everyone good, as we as water sports enthusiasts know better than anyone. However, for some people this is not an option (anymore), for example due to illness, old age or burn-out. The Valkenkring Grou foundation has received a beautiful ship and is now restoring it. When the ship is ready, people who need an extra helping hand can apply for a free sailing trip. A wonderful cause which we gladly support through sponsoring. Want to know more?

How do we make your new sails?

The best sail is made to measure. Our sailmakers will come on board (by appointment, taking into account all hygiene rules) to measure the sails and give you advice on the spot. We prefer to measure on board since no two ships are alike. If it is not possible to measure the sails on board, we can also choose to measure the existing sails in our sail shop and use these measurements for the design of the new sails.

Once we have all the data we get to work designing and cutting the panels/lanes. The strips are glued and stitched together. On the basis of agreed specifications, the sail is finished and made ready for use. Optionally, we can install the sails on your ship.

We are not satisfied until you are! Do you want to experience that yourself? Then get in touch with us. Our phone number is: 0514-562015. Near Lemmer? Come along (with your ship in our free port) so that we can provide you with specific advice. We will be happy to discuss the many options and possibilities for purchasing new sails.

The convenience of a bimini

A quick refresher: what was it again? A bimini is a sunshade for a boat. It is also called a sunroof or sunshade. A bimini consists of a stainless steel tubular frame and a strong, weather-resistant canvas. It is extraordinary what extra comfort a bimini can give on board: on both warm days and rainy days a bimini increases the living space on board. You sit comfortably in the shade, yet also in the wind, and most of the rain is stopped.

Most sailboats have limited space below deck. The cockpit is often used to enjoy the view, the weather and socializing. A bimini is indispensable for protection from the sun and any rain. Moreover, a bimini is very cozy, it gives just that little extra atmosphere on board.

Maintenance tips: check stitching and green deposits on canvas

Are you rigging your boat and notice that the stitching of your sail or canvas is coming loose? Do not wait and visit us. By replacing the stitching in time, you avoid unnecessary discomfort and dangerous situations while sailing.

You see green deposits on your spray hood, now what? If the green deposit has just appeared, you can carefully scrub it off with clean water and a soft brush. Use no green soap. Green soap is greasy and adheres to the fabric, making it easier for traces to stick. When the green deposit is deep in the fabric, you can clean it with Ultramar Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo and the Ultramar Sprayhood & Tent Protector, a strong and high-quality product. If you prefer not to do this yourself, you can let us wash and impregnate the product. By properly cleaning and impregnating the canvas, the dirt, mold and green deposits are less likely to adhere to the canvas and you will extend the life of your product.
