Bimini Top
A bimini top, also called a bimini top, or simply short bimini, is a sun tent for a boat. This tent is located in/above the cockpit, and protects the occupants from the sun. Also, this tent keeps out the worst of the rain. The top concerns only the upper part.
You often see a bimini top on a sailboat, sloop or motor yacht.

Bimini Top Speedboat
On a speedboat there is often a bimini top. The strength of the construction is incredibly important here because the tent must absorb many forces at high speeds. In addition to a bimini top, a speedboat usually has a spray hood for the overflowing splash water.
Due to the high cruising speed of a speedboat, you often don't notice that the sun is shining brightly, you cool off by the wind flowing by. Therefore, a bimini is all the more important for protecting the skin.

Most bimini's can be left in place while sailing. Some sailors like to be able to fold down a bimini. Our sailmaker has all kinds of solutions for that.
Difference bimini top and spray hood
So many tents and different names: the boat jargon is very present when it comes to tent types! What is the difference between a bimini top and a spray hood? A bimini top refers to the top part of a tent, the roof. The sides of the tent are not present. A spray hood is above the entrance of the boat, protecting it and the cockpit from spray while sailing and from rain.
More protection while sailing?
The bimini top is just the top part of a tent. While cruising, the lack of side screens means that the rain is not held back as well. Want more protection from the elements? Then consider a spray hood or cockpit tent.
