Having a chat with us at the port in Lemmer
Last summer we met Anton by chance at our marina in Lemmer. He had just come off the water and we discussed the sailing trip he had taken with his family. A lovely breeze, and with 21 degrees it was a perfect day.
Flapping sail and (too) much heel
Only ... Anton wondered about the condition of his sails. He bought his boat 5 years ago, and the age of the sails was unknown. From time to time he experiences an annoying clattering sail, under certain courses and at a certain number of knots. In addition, the boat does tilt very quickly, which his wife in particular finds unpleasant.
"Our sail flaps at a certain speed, which is not pleasant. And we go pretty lopsided, especially my wife finds that unpleasant."

Cause: natural wear sail
Anton told us these things, and to us, of course, it rang a bell right away. This sounds like a sail that is at the end of its life. Through long and/or intensive use, a sail slowly gets 'sailed out'. The cloth starts to bulge, so the boat tilts faster. The performance slowly decreases; this is the natural decay of any sail.
New sails within 3 weeks
Since the ship was in our harbor, we immediately made an offer. Anton decided to agree to this, and in 3 weeks Anton received his new sails.
1.5 knots harder and less slope
Our expert Johan tested the new sails with Anton, and already during the first sail the ship sailed 1.5 knots faster! And Anton's wife was also satisfied: the ship heeled a lot less.
