A winter tent protects your boat in the winter
For many people, the boating season ends in the fall. The Dutch winters are often not very inviting to go on the water. The boat lies dormant for a number of months, and that has the necessary impact on the ship. Rain, dirt, grime, bird droppings: these things can seriously affect the boat during these months. A winter tent, also called winter tarpaulin, cover or boat tent, ensures that the boat is well protected through the winter. Better for the preservation of the boat, and better for you: it saves a lot of cleaning at the beginning of the season!
Winter tent for sailboat, sloop, cruiser or speedboat
Any type of boat can use a winter tent, even if it is stored inside. We make winter tents for sailboats, sloops, cruisers and speedboats. Do you have another type of boat and would like a tent for it? That is also possible, contact us.
Custom made winter tent
Almost every boat is different, especially with the addition of certain elements such as a davits, outboard motor on the railing or other personal additions. That is why we make custom winter tents.
What are the benefits of a custom-made winter tent?
- A well-fitting tent is the best protection for your ship.
- Wind hardly gets a hold of the tent so it retains its shape well.
- We choose the right material for the conditions your ship is in, this will make your sail last for years.
- A well-fitting winter tent looks neat.
Winter tent sailboat railing
A winter tent on a sailboat: there are many different variations of this. If you walk through a harbor in the winter, you will see that some tents run over the railing, and others run directly to the edge (foot rail) of the ship. What do we recommend?
At De Vries Maritiem, we believe that a winter tent should not go over the railing, but directly from the boom to or over the foot rail of the ship. This ensures that the water drains well, no water or snow remains on your rug, and just as important; the scepters do not get dislocated and do not leak water.
Material winter tent boat
What material, sail or canvas is used for a winter tent? Together we will determine what is best for your vessel.
When choosing a winter tarp, the thickness makes all the difference. The quality of the sail is determined by the density of the material in relation to the size of the boat. The smaller the boat the lower the thickness required.
This thickness is measured in Denier (D). An example: 200D is only suitable for dinghies. Choose 600D for larger boats that need to be protected from the elements for a longer period of time.
The fabric we use is polyester cotton fabric. The standard color is blue, of course it is also possible to choose another color or add a specific print.
Frame winter tent boat
In order to get the winter tent properly tight and sealing on your boat, a solid frame is very important. For every type of boat this can be different. We have 200 years of experience with boats and canvas: we can certainly provide your boat with a suitable tent. In terms of material there is also much to choose from. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my winter tent tight on my boat?
A winter tent neat and taut on the ship: that looks best and is the most functional. How do you get it done? A tailor-made tent is the answer. In addition, you can use a sail tensioner. The sail tensioner comes under the sail. It ensures an optimal tight result and it prevents puddles on the tent.
Which winter tent is right for my boat?
Choose a well-fitting tarpaulin. For a standard ship without any modifications, a universal sail may suffice. Opt for a custom solution if your ship is (slightly) different from the standard, or if you have specific wishes in terms of design or quality.
Why a tarpaulin for your boat?
A tarpaulin has several benefits for your boat:
- Your boat will be better protected from the weather.
- It extends the life of your boat.
- Transporting your boat is safer with a tarp.
- It protects your upholstery from UV radiation.
