Innovative Sealing
The Challenge
The Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) had a specific wish: an efficient and robust seal for their new class of boat, the "Van Wijk." In the past, Zeilmakerij de Vries Maritiem had already provided a similar seal for an earlier version of the lifeboat. With this experience in mind and some modifications in consultation with KNRM, a new design was realized using the latest 3D technologies.
The Process
To achieve a perfectly fitting seal, the boat was first 3D scanned with the advanced Artec Leo scanner. Based on this scan, two concepts were created by Marko our 3D designer, after which one was chosen and developed further.

A number of special requirements emerged during development and assembly. KNRM works under high time pressure and must be able to get out quickly in emergency situations. Therefore, the cover had to be easy and lightning quick to remove. This led to an innovative two-zip solution, with one of the zippers stitched on a tendon for added strength and ease of use.
In addition, KNRM needed additional facilities for connecting various hoses when the boat is moored. This functionality was also integrated into the design.

The Result
The final product is a simple but very efficient cover sheet that fits perfectly wop the needs of KNRM. It provides protection, is quickly removable and provides additional connection options for maximum convenience.
KNRM is extremely satisfied with the solution. Meanwhile, there are already two boats equipped with this seal, confirming the quality and functionality of the design. A cooperation that both Zeilmakerij de Vries Maritiem and KNRM can be proud of!
