How do you fold a spray hood?
- Clean the spray hood first! You can of course do this yourself but we can also take this job off your hands in our sailmaker!
- Make sure the spray hood is dry and clean before you start folding. This will prevent mold and extend the life of the material. Clean with mild products: Use a soft cloth and mild detergent (no harsh detergents or glass cleaners). These may scratch or damage the surface of the window. Special cleaners for vinyl windows are best such as Vuplex. Never use products containing alcohol, acetone or other solvents, as they may dry out or damage the material.
Protect your windows
- Pay attention to temperature: Vinyl windows become rigid and fragile at low temperatures. Do not fold or roll the spray hood with windows in cold weather, as this may cause it to crack. Start by folding the front and back of the spray hood toward the center. This ensures that there are no irregular folds and the material does not get too much tension.
Roll instead of fold:
- If the material allows it, roll the spray hood instead of folding it. Rolling reduces the number of folds, which helps prevent tears or cracks in the material.
Support windows
- Make sure the windows are not flattened during storage. A protective cover or interlayer can help prevent scratches or prints.
Use a protective cover:
- Place the folded or rolled up spray hood in a protective cover to keep it clean and dust-free. This also protects against UV damage when the canopy is not in use.
Check the folding pattern regularly:
- Repeated folding in the same places can weaken the material. Try to vary the folding pattern sometimes to avoid wear on the same lines.
