Winter cover

A winter cloth, also called a winter tent, tarpaulin or boat tent, protects your ship from weather and dirt during the coldest months. Our sailmaker makes high quality winter covers so you can continue to enjoy your ship to the fullest.

Winter cover for any type of boat

Whether your boat is in storage for the winter or outside, with a winter cover from De Vries Maritiem the winter conditions will not affect the condition of your ship. The cockpit remains dry and clean, so you can immediately set sail in the spring. The perfect fit and the high quality materials of our winter covers offer optimal protection so that your sailboat, motorboat, sloop, cruiser or speedboat can safely spend the winter.

Tailor made winter rug

Almost every ship is different, especially with the addition of personal elements. That is why we make winter tents to measure.

What are the benefits of a custom-made winter tent?

  • A well-fitting tent is the best protection for your ship.
  • Wind hardly gets a hold of the tent so it retains its shape well.
  • We choose the right material for the conditions your ship is in, this will make your sail last for years.
  • A well-fitting winter tent looks neat.

How do the sailmakers of De Vries Maritiem work?

  1. On board, the first thing to do is to make a mold.
  2. For proper drainage, when making the mold, we simultaneously consider where the rug needs support. This is to prevent water or snow from standing on the rug.
  3. The winter canvas is fitted with eyelets on the underside all around for attaching lines under the ship.
  4. When you purchase the sail, it is always mounted by our sailmakers.

Cloth winter cloth

We use polyester cotton cloth. Our standard color is blue. On request we can provide your rug with your chosen design (print) or color.

When choosing a winter tarp, the thickness makes all the difference. The quality of the sail is determined by the density of the material in relation to the size of the boat. The smaller the boat the lower the thickness required.

This thickness is measured in Denier (D). An example: 200D is only suitable for dinghies. Choose 600D for larger boats that need to be protected from the elements for a longer period of time.

Frame winter cover boat

In order to get the rug properly tight and snug on your boat, a solid frame is very important. For every boat this can be different. We have a lot of experience with boats and canvas: we can certainly provide your boat with a suitable carpet. In terms of material there is also much to choose from. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my winter cover tight on my boat?

A winter cover neat and taut on the ship: that looks best and is the most functional. How do you get it done? A tailor-made winter tarpaulin is the answer. You can also use a sail tensioner. The sail tensioner is placed under the sail. It ensures an optimal tight result and it prevents puddles on the tent.

Which type of winter cover is suitable for my boat?

Choose a well-fitting winter rug. For a standard boat without any modifications, a universal cover may suffice. Opt for a custom solution if your boat deviates (somewhat) from the standard, or if you have specific design or quality requirements.

Why a winter cover for your boat?

A cover sheet has several advantages for your boat:

  • Your boat will be better protected from the weather.
  • It extends the life of your boat.
  • Transporting your boat is safer with a tarp.
  • It protects your upholstery from UV radiation.
