Tube cover for sailboat or tube cover for motorboat

Looking for a sleek spray hood or sprayhood With a perfect fit for your sailboat or powerboat? We are the market leader in the field of tube covers and convertible tents.

As you have come to expect from our sail making company, our hoods are of the highest quality. We would like to hear your wishes regarding function (spray hood against the sun, wind or rain) and appearance (which color, amount of windows, fastening options). We advise you on the material to be used, the color fastness of the fabric and the durability of this material and think with you about your proposed wishes. Since we have already made thousands of tube roofs, we will always tell you if your idea or wish is practical.

What is a sprayhood or tube hood?

A spray hood, frequently called a spray hood, is a canopy of canvas with a tubular frame that stands like a tent on your boat, providing protection from the weather. A spray hood protects against rain, water coming in, wind and sun. The comfort on board is significantly increased by a fine spray hood.

Are you looking for a sprayhood or a sprayhood? You are at the right address, we will help you!

What does a tube hood cost?

The price of a spray hood varies. As always, your wishes and the size of your ship determine the final cost. Choice of material, special design, more or fewer windows, addition of zippers and fasteners: everything is possible, and we'll be happy to let you know how much something costs.

We are happy to discuss your wishes with you. As always, we think along as if it were our own boat: we keep the cost in mind, because everyone just wants a good spray hood for a nice price. If certain wishes require a lot of customization, and therefore become very expensive, we just tell you. That way you can decide whether such a customization is worth it to you.

How long does a tube hood last?

The life span of a spray hood varies a lot, and this is due to the exposure to the elements on the one hand, and the materials used on the other. Of course, the maintenance of the spray hood also has a great influence on its lifespan. We recommend to clean a spray hood regularly with mild materials.

When you order a spray hood from us, we like to talk to you about how you want to use your spray hood. Are you an intensive sailor, or does your boat often lie in the full sun? Then we recommend a stronger material. Do you bring your spray hood inside in the winter? Then a standard material will suffice. Do you sail mainly on fresh water, or on salt water? There are several questions that we would like to discuss with you before you order your new spray hood.

Many options possible for spray hood: windows, zippers, rear tent.

You have the best ideas for your boat. If you are considering a (new) spray hood, you can think of all kinds of options. Windows, openings, rear tents, bimini's: everything is possible and nothing is too crazy! Our experts can make it all in our workshop in Lemmer.

We like to think along with you. Certain wishes are universal: good all-round visibility, and as little encroachment as possible on the ship's line. Depending on the size of the ship, we apply a tubular frame of 22 to 35 mm stainless steel. We will discuss a number of common wishes below.

Tube hood with aft tent or cockpit tent

The hood can be expanded with a connecting rear tent or cockpit tent, which is zipped to the spray hood. Such an extension is also called a tarpaulin. In this way, you increase the covered living space in your boat. It can look like this:

Some things you only notice once the spray hood is installed! And then it is often too late (or too expensive) to adjust things. That is why you have come to the right place: we do not just carry out an order, but always think along as if it were our own ship. An example: when installing a new spray hood, we always ask about the need to be able to see the top of the mast from under the spray hood, to be able to see important instruments. If one values this greatly, we may install a small roof window in the top (the "ceiling") of the spray hood.

ROLL BACK CAP or GRIPPERBAR

Do you want a spray hood with good grip? We can equip a spray hood with a roll bar. A roll bar, also known as a gripper bar, is a handy handle that is used when entering or leaving the cockpit. We have developed a unique double hardware that makes your roll bar or gripper bar extra strong and durable. To give your handle a more luxurious look, and for a more comfortable grip, you can have your stainless steel gripperbar covered with real leather.

How to clean a spray hood?

To extend the life of your spray hood, and to keep your boat looking neat, it is important to clean your spray hood regularly. In addition, UV is harmful to canvas and windows. Make sure you cover the spray hood (when possible) under a winter tent or sunshade.

How do you clean your spray hood? We give a few tips:

  • Use a microfiber cloth to clean the windows, and a solution of water and a small splash of vinegar.
  • Do not use miracle sponges for windows! Even though these sponges seem very effective, they remove an important coating from the windows.
  • After each sailing trip on salt water, rinse the spray hood with water.

Of course, you can also have your spray hood cleaned by us, which is fast and effective. After cleaning, your spray hood will look like new again. If we see that cleaning your spray hood is not the solution, we will of course tell you that.

The results of our experts' cleaning of tube hoods are often stunning, as you can see in these photos:

Cloth and fabric for spray hood

The choice of a color and type of canvas for your spray hood has a major impact on the look of the hood and your boat. It also determines the lifespan. It is therefore important to use good quality fabrics. Sailmakerij De Vries Maritiem works closely with several fabric suppliers. Only the best fabrics are good enough for us. We work together with:
